Wildlife conservation, nongame wildlife, and endangered species have always been my professional passions. I have worked on these issues since 1971, in South America, Canada, México, and throughout the United States (except Rhode Island, a conscious exception!). I was employed by a Nongovernmental Organization (The Nature Conservancy; 4 years), a State Wildlife Agency (Arizona Game and Fish Department; 30 years) and along the way I've been a private consultant to many other agencies and organizations.
Nowadays, most of my work involves planning and leading groups on fishing trips in the USA, México and (in 2027) the Rio Negro in the Brazilian Amazon Basin. Some of these trips are covered on pages found deeper in this website. These trips are mostly with friends and friends-of-friends. They aren’t money-makers for me (which is intentional), but the rewards of having fun with friends are beyond measure. As a lifelong OCD guy, I enjoy the organizational challenges of planning and leading as much as as the fishing. Well, almost as much as the fishing. Mostly they focus on fishing waters that harbor trophy laregmouth bass (USA and México) or trophy peacock bass and arapaima (Rio Negro).
Avocationally, I've always been a volumninous reader and a pretty decent fisherman. Now, I’ve pretty much wound down my conservation consulting business, in favor of discovering the wonders of retirement. I'm getting back to writing. I write occasional popular and scientific articles and I’m working on three books. But, I still take on short-term projectsfrom time to times––including editing manuscripts for substance, format and grammar . Meanwhile, the world changes as overpopulation, habitat destruction, climate change, species and ecosystem endangerment, and agency and governmental dysfunction continue unabated.
