C.A.S.T. for Kids (CFK) is an award-winning national charity, established in 1991 to benefit kids with Special Needs. Formed by two anglers in Washington State, CFK became a 501(c)(3) charity in 1994. It enriches families' lives through non-competitive fishing events for kids 6 or more years old. Each year, CFK volunteers hold more than 100 events, Experienced boaters take the kids and their adult companions out for a few hours of fishing and boating. Each child receives a rod/reel combo, tackle box full of tackle, box of live worms, and an event hat and t-shirt. After a tasty lunch, the kids and boat captains receive plaques with their photo. They also tell the audience how THEY think their trip went. Sometimes the audience wonders whether a child and their captain were on the same boat. Everything is different through the eyes of a child.
Participating families pay NOTHING for CFK events. Local sponsors cover the costs. Volunteers (like me) plan and conduct the events.
The next annual CFK event at Lake Pleasant, our 24th, is on March 29, 2025. It will again be at Pleasant Harbor Marina & RV Resort. Great facility, easy access. We hope to have more than 50 kids, 50 boat captains, 60+ shore volunteers, and 40+ sponsors.
Online registration for the March 29 event will open ASAP after New Year’s Day and remain open until about 4 weeks before the event. It closes early so I can get ready for the event. More information will be forthcoming, ASAP.
